I love book groups. I just got back from meeting with a bunch of lovely, smart, funny women in Redlands. Not only did they have great questions and insights to share about my book--the host also served an amazing array of treats. A platter of gorgeous strawberries with homemade lime curd for dipping. Pineapple/habanero jelly over cream cheese, served with little toasts. Bowls of spiced nuts. And, to top it all off at the end of the evening--an ice cream torte, vanilla layered with homemade lemon curd (two curds in one night!) on top of a rich, nutty crust. Absolutely luscious. I am buzzing now, all sugared up. A delicious evening for both mind and body.

If the book group I'm in reads "Self Storage," will you come out to Ojai to talk to us about it?

I guarantee we'll have good snacks.

I would love to come out to Ojai to discuss Self Storage, Kit--let's figure out how to make that happen.

Looking forward to it (and the snacks!),

Great! Our next meeting is in August. Will "Self Storage" be out by then?

Not until January 23rd, I'm afraid. The advance copies are going to printed up later this month, though--maybe I can convince my publisher to use your book group as a sort of focus group. :)

I hope so...and for what it's worth, I think the group would be willing to play focus group. Probably would be flattered to be asked.

We're a group of mostly middle-aged women, Californian and left-leaning, but not especially political. Books especially well-liked in the group include the one we just read, "The Dark," but also "Brokeback Mountain," "Disgrace," by Coetzee, and Michael Frayn's "Headlong."

I put that down so you'll have some idea who we are. I'm eager to have the chance to introduce you to the group, when the right time arises.

The group sounds great, Kit! I will talk to my publisher and see what we can arrange...
